ALTIDOR-CV

This composition contains cefixime and clavulanate which are used together to enhance the activity of cefixime because Some penicillin and cephalosporin group of class develop resistance against beta-lactamase enzymes produced by the bacteria. They are used to treat bacterial infections.

Cefixime belongs to the cephalosporin antibiotic and is belongs to the third-generation antibiotic. It stable against the enzyme beta-lactamase.

Clavulanate is known as beta-lactamase inhibitors and is used with other antibiotics such as penicillin as well as cephalosporin to prevent them from degradation by beta-lactamase and thus enhances their effectivity.

  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
  • Salmonella infections
  • Shigella infection
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhoea
  • Bacterial sinusitis

Mechanism of action-

Cefixime binds to the penicillin binding proteins present inside the bacteria and inhibit the activity of penicillin binding protein thus destructs the cell wall of the bacteria.

Clavulanic acid contains beta-lactam ring in its structure and inhibit it and prevent other antibiotics from its action.

Pharmacokinetics:

Cefixime-
It is absorbed orally
It is 65% bound to plasma proteins
It is metabolized in the liver
It is excreted unchanged via urine
