Diabetes mellitus is marked by decrease insulin sensitivity and causes elevation in blood sugar level. So, this product contains metformin and glimepiride which is used together to treat diabetes mellitus. It works by increasing the amount of insulin secreted by the beta-cells located in pancreas.

Glimepiride is second-generation antidiabetic drug of sulphonylureas. It works by increasing the insulin granules.

Metformin falls under the category of biguanides and is used in the management of diabetes mellitus. It helps to lower the increased glucose level.

  • In type-2 diabetes mellitus

Mechanism of action-

Metformin cause decrease in liver glucose production or prevent intestinal absorption of glucose and increased peripheral utilization of glucose.

Glimepiride blocks the ATP-sensitive potassium channels and causes depolarization thus increases insulin sensitivity.

It is 99% bound to plasma proteins
It is metabolized in the liver by oxidation
It is excreted via urine and feces

Metformin-
It is orally absorbed
It does not show protein binding
