Levocetirizine is the histamine receptor blockers. It is used in the treatment of allergic reactions. It selectively inhibits the histamine receptors.

It shows great affinity towards the histamine receptor.

  • Chronic idiopathic urticaria

Mechanism of Action-

Levocetirizine blocks the histamine by inhibiting the binding of histamine to its receptors and causes smooth muscle relaxation, decreases the permeability of vascular endothelium.

Absorption- It is absorbed orally
Protein Binding- It is 96% bound to plasma proteins
Metabolism- It undergoes O-dealkylation and N-dealkylation
Excretion- It is excreted via feces and urine
