METFRO SUS

This composition contains ofloxacin, metronidazole and simethicone effectively treat diarrhoea. simethicone leads to destruction of gas bubbles into smaller one and ofloxacin prevents the reproduction and repairing of bacteria, metronidazole kills the microorganisms by damaging their DNA.

Ofloxacin belongs to broad spectrum antibiotic and belongs to fluroquinolones antibiotics. It shows activity against gram positive and gram-negative bacteria. Its mode of action is bactericidal.

Simethicone belongs to the antifoaming agent and is the mixture of polimethylsiloxone and hydrated silica gel.

Metronidazole belongs to the nitroimidazole class. It is used to treat gastrointestinal infections, trichomoniasis and giardiasis.

  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
  • Salmonella infections
  • Shigella infection
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhoea
  • Bacterial sinusitis

Mechanism of action-

Ofloxacin inhibits the enzyme DNA gyrase and topoisomerase which is responsible for supercoiling of bacterial DNA and for replication.
Simethicone decreases surface tension and thus leads to reduction in gas pockets.
Metronidazole after administration enters into the cell and releases nitro radicals and thus inhibits replication of DNA.

Pharmacokinetics-

Ofloxacin-
It is orally absorbed
It is 32% bound to plasma proteins
It is metabolized by liver
It is excreted via feces

Metronidazole-
It is absorbed orally
It is 20% bound to plasma proteins
It undergoes hydroxylation, oxidation and glucuronidation
It is excreted via feces

Simethicone-
It is inert thus it is excreted unchanged via urine
