OFLOSAR-ORD

This composition contains ofloxacin and ornidazole which are used together to treat bacterial infection such as peritonitis, Dysentery, Diarrhoea and pelvic infections. They collectively kill parasites and anaerobic bacteria. they prevent the bacteria from multiplying and repairing.

Ofloxacin belongs to the flouroquilones class and is used in the treatment of bacterial infections and have bactericidal action. It is broad-spectrum antibiotic and has activity against gram-positive and gram-negative action.

Ornidazole belongs to the synthetic nitroimidazole class. Ornidazole is obtained from the acid catalysed reaction.

Mechanism of action-

Ofloxacin inhibits the DNA gyrase and topoisomerase-4 and prevent the supercoiling of DNA or replication of bacterial DNA.

Ornidazole causes reduction to nitro group and generates free radicals which is toxic for the bacteria and then it kills them.

It is absorbed orally
It is 32% bound to plasma proteins
It is metabolized in the liver
It is excreted unchanged via urine

Ornidazole-
It is rapidly absorbed orally and its absorption is 90%

Precaution-

Stop using it in case of hepatic disorders
