ROZULUK

Rosuvastatin belongs to the statin class. It is used to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases and also lowers the level of lipid and cholesterol of the body. It is considered as the first line treatment for the hypercholesteremia. It has high lipophilicity which increases its hepatic uptake.

Mechanism of action-

Rosuvastatin inhibits the enzyme hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase which catalyses the conversion of HMG-COA to mevalonic acid which leads to the production of lipids, cholesterol and helps in the transport of the cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins.

Pharmacokinetics-

Absorption- It is absorbed orally
Protein Binding- It is 88% bound to proteins and mainly to albumin
Metabolism- It is metabolized to N-desmethylrosuvastatin
Excretion- It is excreted unchanged via urine
