The composition of beclomethasone dipropionate and salicylic acid which are used together to reduce swelling, itchiness and removes rough patches of skin. They block the production of prostaglandins that makes the skin itchy, inflamed and swollen. It breaks downs the keratin clumps and removes the dead skin cells. also, it softens the skin.

Beclomethasone Dipropionate belongs to the second-generation corticosteroid and is obtained synthetically. It is prodrug and it is converted into its active metabolite.

Salicylic acid has bacteriostatic, fungicidal and keratotic action and its salt are used as analgesics. It is mainly indicated as acne, psoriasis, Seborrheic dermatitis.

Mechanism of action:

Beclomethasone Dipropionate binds to the glucocorticoid receptors and translocated in the nucleus and then it further binds to glucocorticoid response elements and causes changes in the transcription. therefore, it prevents the release of inflammatory mediators.

Salicylic Acid blocks the cox-1 and cox-2 enzyme and thus prevents the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins and thromboxane’s.

Ointment base contains petroleum and mineral oil. the oleaginous material is incorporated into the ointment base.
