V CLAV Dry Syrup

This composition contains amoxycillin and clavulanic acid which are used to treat bacterial Infections. Amoxycillin has longer duration of action. It also causes upregulation of autolytic enzymes and has wide therapeutic range. Amoxycillin along with clavulanic acid to overcome resistance.

Amoxycillin is the derivative of the penicillin G. It has similar activity to that of penicillin and clavulanic acid but it possesses higher serum concentration than others. It is also used in combination with proton pump inhibitors to treat infections caused by H. Pylori.

Clavulanic acid is antagonist of beta-lactamase. It is effective only when used with other antibiotics. It overcomes the resistance produced by the beta-lactamase enzyme.

  • Bacterial sinusitis
  • Community acquired pneumonia
  • Skin infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections

Mechanism of action-

Amoxycillin inhibits the penicillin binding proteins, PBP is responsible for transpeptidase reactions and also for crosslinking between D-alanine and D-aspartic acid.
Clavulanic acid contains beta-lactam ring in its structure and inhibit it and prevent other antibiotics from its action.
