Amoxycillin belongs to the antibiotic class and has longer duration of action and has wider therapeutic index. It is given bis a day. Amoxycillin is used in combination with clarithromycin medications to treat abdominal ulcers. It is used to children to treat bacterial infections such as ear and chest infections. It has broad spectrum activity and is effective against gram- positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Mechanism of action-

Amoxycillin inhibits the penicillin binding protein because penicillin binding protein is responsible for peptidoglycan mediated cross-linking of D-alanine and D-aspartic acid.

Pharmacokinetics-

Absorption- It is orally absorbed
Protein Binding- It is 17% bound to serum proteins
Metabolism- It undergoes deamination and decarboxylation, glucuronidation
Excretion- It is excreted via urine
