Fluconazole belongs to the classification of azol antifungals. It is used to treat variety of fungal and yeast infections. It works by preventing the growth of Fungi.
It treats the infections superficially and systemically. Fluconazole blocks the ability to fungi to undergo reproduction.
Fluconazole is used to treat fungal infections in people whose immune system, is weak.

  • Vaginal yeast infections caused by candida
  • Skin irritation
  • Urinary tract candidiasis
  • Peritoneal candidiasis
  • Esophageal candidiasis

Mechanism of Action-

Fluconazole causes inhibition of 14-alpha-demethylase present in fungal cells and involve in the fungal cell wall synthesis thus interferes with synthesis of cell wall, growth or adhesion of cells.

Pharmacokinetics-

Absorption- It is absorbed orally
Protein Binding- It is 11-12% bound to proteins
Metabolism- It undergoes glucuronidation
Excretion- It is excreted via urine
