VOGLIZEN–GM

Insulin is the important hormone which responsible for regulating blood glucose level so this product contains Voglibose, glimepiride and metformin which improves the insulin sensitivity and decrease the increased glucose level. Voglibose prevents the digestion of complex carbohydrates whereas glimepiride decrease lowers the risk of hypoglycaemia and of weight gain. metformin prevents the glucose production and absorption.

Voglibose belongs to alpha glucosidase inhibitor and is used to low the post prandial blood glucose in the people suffering from diabetes mellitus and helps to reduce the macrovascular complications.

Glimepiride belongs to the category of sulfonylureas; sulfonylureas are known as insulin secretagogue and is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. they exert the extra pancreatic effect i.e. increases the insulin mediated peripheral glucose uptake.

Metformin hcl belongs to the biguanide class and act as insulin sensitizer and leads to decrease in resistance of insulin. It is most commonly used drug by obese patients.

  • Type-2 diabetes mellitus

Mechanism of action-

Voglibose completely acts on the carbohydrate and prevent their absorption by acting on the enzymes which is used to digest carbohydrates.
Metformin hcl prevents the production of glucose and intestinal absorption of glucose. It increases the peripheral utilization of glucose uptake.
Glimepiride increases the secretion of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas by blocking the ATPase sensitive potassium channels and leads to depolarization. It lowers the risk of hypoglycaemia and of weight gain.

Pharmacokinetics-

Voglibose-
It is absorbed orally

Glimepiride-
It is completely absorbed by GIT
It is 98% bound to plasma proteins
It is metabolized by oxidation
It is excreted via urine and feces

Metformin-
It is rapidly absorbed
It is 90% bound to plasma proteins
It does not show metabolism
It is excreted unchanged via urine
